Manipulating or not - t'is the question / Bildmanipulation oder nicht - das ist hier die Frage

Freely cited after Hamlet, the question arises whether manipulating the content of a picture is strictly ethical in terms of photographers moral.

Access to todays tools makes retouching a picture so easy that pimples or other failures are quickly erased.
But what if the content is changed?

Below is a picture I created by using masks and the using the erasers to blend two pictures into one, quite the opposite from the usual approach to remove unwanted persons from a scene by blending multiple shots into one (which was my initial motivation for making multiple shots). In the first picture, the boy was lead by a parent/father and two UnwantedPersons were also in the scene.

In the second picture, the mother was already halfway in the entrance, way ahead of the little girl. Since the father was partly covered by one UnwantedPerson, I decided to erase both parents and helped the sister to catch up with her brother :-).

While this is a far cry from Stalinistic erasures of Politicians who had fallen from grance, it still is a creation of something which had not quite happened. I am still pondering.....


Frei nach Hamlet, stellt sich die Frage ob die Veränderung von Bildinhalten einer strikten Ethik entspricht im Sinne von Moral eines Fotografen.

Der leichte Zugang zu heutigen Werkzeugen macht da Entfernen von Pickeln und anderen Fehlern schnell und leicht. Aber was wenn der Bildinhalt verändert wird?

Weiter unten ist ein Bild das ich aus zweien erzeugt habe mit Hilfe von Masken und dem Radierwerkzeug in PS. Dabei habe ich nicht das Übliche gemacht und aus dem Bild alle Personen entfernt (was mein ursprünglicher Grund für mehrere Bilder war), sondern im Gegenteil zwei Personen zusammengeführt.

Im ersten Bild wurde der Junge vom Vater geführt und zwei UnerwünschtePersonen (tm) waren mit Im Bild.

Im zweiten Bild war die Mutter bereits zur Hälfte im Eingang verschwunden und weit vor dem Mädchen. Da der Vater zum Teil verdeckt war durch eine UnerwünschtePerson, habe ich beide Eltern entfernt und der Schwester geholfen ihren Bruder einzuholen :-).

Dies ist zwar weit entfernt von stalinistischen Säuberungen, wo in Ungnade gefallenen Personen nicht nur physisch "gelöscht" wurden, sondern auch von Bildern wegretouchiert. Aber es ist trotzdem das Erzeugen von etwas, was so nicht passiert ist. Ich grüble noch.......
